Dignitary of Rotary

Dr. Kameswar Singh Elangbam, the District Governor, is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon, originally from Imphal, Manipur, now residing in Shillong, Meghalaya. He received his MBBS from Assam Medical College and completed his MS Ortho at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He is also an AO Fellow from Germany in Trauma Surgery and trained in the management of complex trauma in Switzerland. After serving in various capacities in the Govt of Meghalaya, he retired and now runs his own private practice at Kamber Clinics in Shillong.

Family and Professional Life

Dr. Elangbam is married to Dr. Berylda, a radiologist. They have a daughter who is a gynaecologist and a son who is an entrepreneur. Their son-in-law is an orthopaedic surgeon, and their daughter-in-law is a pathologist, making the family a veritable team of doctors. He is also a proud grandfather to two grandsons, Dason (aged 8) and Da-Elangki (6).

Rotary Journey and Service

Dr. Elangbam began his Rotary journey in 2007 with the Rotary Club of Shillong. As president during the club’s Diamond Jubilee year (2016-17), he spearheaded several impactful service projects. These included: Establishing a dialysis centre in Shillong.Completely transforming the Seng Khasi School in Mawphlang.Working closely with the women’s self-help group “Seng Kynthei” in rural Meghalaya, whom he continues to support.Demonstrating his commitment to the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self,” Dr. Elangbam also extended his service beyond his district’s borders. His team from RCS donated a water filtration unit to help people in Sri Lanka suffering from kidney disease caused by groundwater pollution, and he contributed to the construction of community toilets project in Bhutan.

Engagement and Vision

Dr. Elangbam has attended numerous Rotary International conventions, conferences, and institutes around the world. He has also visited Rotary’s world headquarters in Evanston, Chicago, to study the organization’s history and enhance his knowledge, which he shares with fellow Rotarians in his district and wherever possible.
